Garmin Epix Pro Smartwatch: A Costly But Highly Effective Fitness Tracker
Garmin Epix Pro Smartwatch Review: As demand for smartwatches grows due to increased interest in fitness and health tracking, major brands are introducing a range of smartwatches that offer a variety of fitness features and health tracking options. From Apple and Samsung to Fitbit and Garmin, all tech brands are investing heavily in smartwatches.
When Apple introduced the Watch Ultra for iPhone users last year with fascinating health features, the Android community eagerly awaited a similar or even superior offering to the competition. That’s where American smart wearable brand Garmin steps in. This Epix Pro series now competes directly with the Apple Watch Ultra.
The next-generation Garmin Epix Pro Series smartwatches are available in India at a starting price of Rs 1,11,990 and are specially developed for athletes, adventurers and fitness enthusiasts. I had the opportunity to test this smartwatch extensively for over two weeks and here is my review on the same. Gram’s Epix Pro is one of the most powerful and versatile smartwatches with a stunning AMOLED display, durable design, long battery life and a wide range of features to track your health.
Let’s start with the design and construction of this Garmin smartwatch. The Epix Pro is made of premium materials such as sapphire and titanium and meets military standards for heat, shock and water resistance. Even though the watch weighs 88 grams, it gives you a sweat-free wrist even after wearing it for a long time. It might seem big, but it’s surprisingly light. However, the design is straightforward with a round dial, which may seem simple for its cost.
Garmin Epix Pro Smartwatch Review: What’s Cool
Display: The Garmin Epix Pro smartwatch features a 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a responsive touchscreen. I was really impressed with the quality of the display. I tested it in different lighting situations, such as in direct sunlight and even underwater while swimming, and the smartwatch performed admirably. The AMOLED display remained efficient throughout my review period, and the Always On Display mode also performed excellently.
The standout feature of this smartwatch lies in its exceptional health and fitness tracking features and the wide range of sports modes available. It is full of activities to follow a variety of sports including hiking, running, cycling, rowing, badminton, squash, table tennis, archery, kayaking, surfing and swimming. It offers advanced training features to help you optimize your performance. This includes metrics such as hill scores, endurance scores, VO2 max, training load and training status. The device is equipped with multi-band GPS for accurate navigation, it is also designed for health monitoring, including Pulse Ox and sleep monitoring.
I used the Garmin Epix Pro during my swim lessons and was able to check an in-depth analysis of my fitness level, calories burned, heart rate while swimming, strokes, and distance covered during the workout. , and much more. The advanced tracking features of this smartwatch provided a thorough and detailed analysis of my performance. Also, I’m attaching a few pictures to give you an idea of the detail the watch offers.
Battery: Gram’s Epix Pro offers up to 31 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. Throughout my review period, battery performance met expectations. Even with Always-On Display (AOD) active, the battery lasted well. Even in power saving mode, with only 4% battery left, it managed to last more than 4 days.
Connectivity and Features: We all know that you need an iPhone to use the Apple Watch Ultra, but this Gramin watch is compatible with both Android and iPhone devices and works smoothly on both devices. Notably, this smartwatch features a 10 ATM water resistance rating, a unique red flashlight, real-time inventory updates, weather alerts, WhatsApp alerts, and more.
Garmin Epix Pro Smartwatch Review: What’s Not Cool
Design: While the smartwatch offers a number of impressive features, there are some design aspects that could be better. If you’re using a smartwatch that costs more than 1 lakh, it should be visually appealing, which is sadly lacking in the case of the Epix Pro.
Touch and Too Many Buttons: In my experience, I found the touch response of the screen to be a bit slower compared to the competition. In addition, I found the user interface of the smartwatch a bit complicated. It should be more user friendly. Another point to note is that the device has a total of 5 buttons – 2 on the right side and 3 on the left. This can be harder to understand for people who like to keep things simple. The arrangement of five buttons and the complexity of the user interface may be overwhelming for some users.
Garmin Epix Pro Smartwatch Review: Verdict
1,11,990 in India, the Garmin Epix Pro smartwatch impresses with fitness-centric features, great battery life and an AMOLED display. It’s great for tracking your health, making it a strong training partner compared to the competition. However, the design and user interface could be improved.
